international women’s day (march 8)
Every year on March 8, the world celebrates International Women's Day — a global day recognizing the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It happens to be one of my favorite days of the year. It’s a time to celebrate, rage, reflect, pause, and create plans for more.
One of the reasons I created Travel Family is to ease the burden on moms. So often, moms are the planners, the organizers, the appointment-makers, the researchers—the quiet backbone that keeps family life running. And while that dedication is incredible, the decision fatigue and exhaustion that comes with it is very real.
International Women’s Day is a perfect moment to pause and acknowledge this labor—not just the visible tasks, but the invisible emotional weight that women carry. Traveling with kids, for example, can amplify that load: choosing destinations, booking flights, planning meals, and juggling everyone’s needs can feel like running a marathon that never ends.
That’s why Travel Family exists: to remove some of that pressure, to offer guidance, resources, and inspiration so moms don’t have to do it all alone. To show that travel can be joyful, manageable, and deeply rewarding—not another source of stress.
But here’s the thing: this isn’t just about moms. It’s about all women who hold multiple roles, responsibilities, and expectations, often silently.
my reflections
Today, on International Women's Day, I find myself thinking about the women who go anyway.
The ones who book the flight even when it feels overwhelming.
The ones who carry the snacks, the passports, and the emotional load.
The ones who are tired… and still choose to show their children the world.
Travel doesn’t have to be grand to be powerful. Sometimes it’s a weekend road trip to a nearby town. Sometimes it’s a first flight with shaky hands. Sometimes it’s a museum visit where no one lasts more than 42 minutes. And yet, each trip leaves its mark—not just on your children, but on you.
This International Women’s Day, I want to honor the moms raising travelers, the children watching their mothers be brave, and all women redefining what “possible” looks like.
You belong in the story too. Your journey, no matter the size, matters. And it inspires.
#momsgotoo
This year, I pulled together some of my favorite travel moms to create a common hashtag #momsgotoo. This hashtag celebrates that our life doesn’t stop as women as we become older, as we become mothers.
At first glance, #MomsGoToo might seem aimed only at mothers—but it carries a message that every woman can relate to. The essence of the hashtag isn’t just about parenting; it’s about permission, participation, and presence.
Permission to Go – Many women, whether moms, daughters, aunts, or friends, feel like life’s obligations hold them back. The hashtag whispers: you can go. You deserve it.
Shared Courage – Traveling with kids highlights bravery in everyday life: planning, juggling, problem-solving. These are qualities all women exhibit, whether they’re managing a career, pursuing creative passions, or caring for family in other ways.
Community & Solidarity – #MomsGoToo is about supporting each other in taking space, claiming experiences, and embracing joy. Even women without children can see themselves in this: encouraging one another to explore, try new things, and participate fully in life.
Legacy & Inspiration – The hashtag symbolizes showing up. For moms, that’s literal—bringing children along. For all women, it’s metaphorical: modeling courage, independence, and curiosity for others around them.
In short, #MomsGoToo is a gentle rallying cry for every woman who has ever hesitated, paused, or questioned whether she belongs in her own adventure. It’s not limited to motherhood—it’s about owning your place in the story of life.
